I have a thought that you can get in trouble for falsely reporting a crime...

"A New Orleans resident has received several speeding tickets over the past few years for racing through town at the blistering speed of ... 0 mph.
Donald Schulz says he’s been issued at least 10 citations since 2011 for having his pickup truck legally parked along Canal Boulevard. The street has a 35 mph speed limit and a stationary traffic camera on the median.
'It’s a nuisance; I've had to take time out of my day several times and go down there and correct the situation,' Schulz told Fox News. 'It got so bad that years ago I even had a [telephone] number of a person [in the traffic violations office] so that if I called them directly I didn’t have to go down there.'"

Indictment: Arrington diverted $70,000 in nonprofit money

"Federal prosecutors now charge that while she was becoming a well-known public figure, Arrington diverted at least $70,000 from her nonprofit during many of the same years she was suffering tens of thousands of dollars in gambling losses at Presque Isle Downs & Casino. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Erie announced Thursday that Arrington, 51, is facing 33 felony counts. Thirty-one of the counts are for wire fraud and are related to expenditures made with money intended for MATV, according to the indictment."

"Federal immigration officials arrested 225 people in a sweeping six-day raid in the five boroughs and surrounding counties, officials said.
Operation Keep Safe, as the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency called it, netted 163 people in the city between April 9 through April 14 — 45 of whom had no outstanding criminal issue.
ICE officials said that 180 of those arrested were convicted criminals or had criminal charges pending against them, but refused to release their names. Those people now face deportation."

"The new research was spurred by the discovery in 2016 of the first bacterium that had naturally evolved to eat plastic, at a waste dump in Japan. Scientists have now revealed the detailed structure of the crucial enzyme produced by the bug. The international team then tweaked the enzyme to see how it had evolved, but tests showed they had inadvertently made the molecule even better at breaking down the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic used for soft drink bottles. 'What actually turned out was we improved the enzyme, which was a bit of a shock,' said Prof John McGeehan, at the University of Portsmouth, UK, who led the research. 'It’s great and a real finding.' The mutant enzyme takes a few days to start breaking down the plastic – far faster than the centuries it takes in the oceans. But the researchers are optimistic this can be speeded up even further and become a viable large-scale process. 'What we are hoping to do is use this enzyme to turn this plastic back into its original components, so we can literally recycle it back to plastic,' said McGeehan. 'It means we won’t need to dig up any more oil and, fundamentally, it should reduce the amount of plastic in the environment.'"

The Committee to Defend the President (CDP), a political action committee formally known as Stop Hillary PAC, filed its complaint with the FEC in December 2017 with the claims that the Hillary Victory Fund (HVF) solicited cash from big-name donors, and allegedly sent that money through state chapters and back to the DNC before ending up with the Clinton campaign.
As first reported by Fox News at the time, the CDP alleges in its complaint that about $84 million was funneled illegally from the DNC through state party chapters and back into the war chest of the Clinton campaign. The political action committee claims that even though the FEC acknowledged receipt of the complaint and claimed that an investigation would be conducted, the needle has barely moved."

"Dr. Mark Griffiths, the lead surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust in East London, said that knife and gun wounds had moved from a 'niche' part of his job to a daily chunk of his workload, and a growing number of victims were 'children'.
'Some of my military colleagues have described their practice here as similar to being at [Camp] Bastion,' Dr Griffiths told the Today programme on BBC Radio 4.
'We used to look after people in their twenties. Now people are often in their mid to late teens and children in school uniforms are being admitted under our care with knife and gun wounds.'"

"Breitbart News reported on March 9 that the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s (CHSR) new chief program officer, Roy Hill, had issued a 114-page “2018 Draft Budget” with a “Base Case” cost to build the 500-mile bullet train that had more than doubled to $77.3 billion, or $155 million per mile. That compared to the $37 billion, $74 million-per-mile plan that Gov. Schwarzenegger and other advocates claimed when they convinced voters to pass Proposition 1A in 2008. CHSR’s first comprehensive financial review in a decade acknowledged, “The worst-case scenario has happened.” But CHSR — for the first time — included a “High Case” estimate that warned costs could spike to $98.1 billion, or $196 million per mile."

First 'Free-Range' Parenting Law Passes In Utah

"On March 23, Utah became the first state to legalize 'free-range' parenting, a controversial style of child rearing in which 'parents allow their children to move about without constant adult supervision, aimed at instilling independence and self-reliance,' according to Dictionary.com.
Signed into law by Republican Gov. Gary Herbert following the state House and Senate's unanimous approval, the 'free-range kids' bill is considered to be the first legislation of its kind in the United States and will take effect in May.
The key measure in the bill was its redefinition of 'neglect' in Utah law, which now allows children to participate in some unsupervised activities without their parents being charged, a state representative told ABC News. The bill's sponsors did not define an age limit, leaving it 'purposely open-ended so police and prosecutors can work on a case-by-case basis' if they suspect legitimate abuse or neglect, according to The Associated Press."

"Every one of the 44 House Democrats who hired Pakistan-born IT aides who later allegedly made 'unauthorized access' to congressional data appears to have chosen to exempt them from background checks, according to congressional documents.
All of them appear to have waived background checks on Imran Awan and his family members, even though the family of server administrators could collectively read all the emails and files of 1 in 5 House Democrats, and despite background checks being recommended for such positions, according to an inspector general’s report. The House security policy requires offices to fill out a form attesting that they’ve initiated background checks, but it also includes a loophole allowing them to simply say that another member vouched for them."

"The law — commonly known as Act 319 or Clean and Green — offers steeply discounted “preferential” assessments to owners of farms and other large undeveloped tracts. It’s an inducement to keep them from selling to builders. The discounts work by basing assessments on what the land is worth as a working farm or woodlot, and not its value if sold on the real estate market.
Those discounts cut property taxes not only for mom-and-pop farmers, but also for millionaires living in country estates, and golf courses, quarries and other non-agriculture businesses. The discounts are not free, either. Their cost is shifted to other people and businesses in those same communities, who foot higher property tax bills to cover the lost revenue to schools, counties and municipalities.
That reality has quietly turned Clean and Green into one of Pennsylvania’s largest taxpayer-backed subsidy programs year after year, according to a 10-month investigation by The Morning Call. And there is little oversight or monitoring of the program."
