The root of this issue is a column accusing Sarah Palin of using militant "crosshairs" to incite disruptive behavior.
It has since been shown that they were NOT "crosshairs"; instead, they were surveyors symbols for designating locations on a map.
So much for the "worldly" knowledge of the biased columnist...

Now, at BigJournalism.com, John Sexton identifies true "target" symbols having been used by liberals in the past, which was apparently OK:
"Granted these are bulls-eyes instead of gun-sights, and the targets are states not individual congressmen. But we’re really splitting hairs at this point. This map and the language it uses (Behind enemy lines!) are, if anything, more militant than what Palin used in her Facebook posting."
